Jeannette Larson is a children’s book editor who loves a memorable turn of phrase, a haunting or hilarious illustration, and the unique spark between the two that results in unforgettable books. She could hardly avoid a career in children’s book publishing, thanks to book-dealer parents who filled the house with their inventory of rare books for kids. She joined Harcourt Children’s Books straight out of college and spent nearly thirty years in editorial and leadership positions at what is now Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books for Young Readers, acquiring and editing picture books and middle-grade/teen fiction. Many of the books she has published have received starred reviews, been honored by the American Library Association, and appeared on the New York Times bestseller list.

With deep respect for the creative process and an author’s vision, Jeannette now has an independent editorial consultancy that nurtures fledgling book ideas and publishing programs. She is consulting editor for Flyaway Books, an exciting voice in children’s book publishing and a sister imprint to Westminster John Knox Press. Flyaway Books publishes a wide range of emerging and established authors and artists, focusing on picture books that embrace diversity, inclusivity, compassion, spiritual curiosity, and care for each other and the world. Jeannette also works with individual writers seeking professional guidance and editing for books headed toward commercial or independent publication.
